Acceptable Use Policy
Rules governing acceptable use of Broadband4 internet services.
Last updated: 24 February 2026
1. Overview
This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) sets out the rules governing the use of internet connectivity and related services provided by Broadband4 (a trading name of PSD Group Ltd) to schools and educational institutions. All users of our network are required to comply with this policy.
2. Acceptable Use
Our services are provided for legitimate educational and administrative purposes. Acceptable use includes:
- Teaching, learning, and curriculum-related activities
- School administration and communication
- Professional development and research
- Communication with parents, carers, and the wider school community
3. Prohibited Activities
Users must not use Broadband4 services to:
- Access, create, transmit, or distribute any material that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
- Access or attempt to access content that has been blocked by our web filtering systems
- Bypass, disable, or interfere with any security or filtering controls
- Infringe any intellectual property rights, including downloading pirated software, music, or video
- Transmit viruses, malware, or any other harmful code
- Conduct any form of network scanning, hacking, or unauthorised access to systems
- Use the service for commercial purposes unrelated to the school's educational mission
- Send unsolicited bulk email (spam) or engage in any form of network abuse
- Conduct any activity that may bring the school or Broadband4 into disrepute
4. Web Filtering and Monitoring
All internet traffic on our managed services is subject to web filtering in line with UK government guidance, including the Department for Education's Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) requirements. We operate IWF-certified filtering through Netsweeper and/or Smoothwall to block access to harmful content. Schools using our monitoring solutions will also have student activity monitored for safeguarding purposes.
5. Bandwidth and Fair Usage
To ensure fair access for all users, we may apply traffic management measures during periods of high demand. Excessive bandwidth consumption that degrades service for other schools on our network may result in temporary throttling or a request to upgrade the service tier.
6. Security
Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their devices, passwords, and network credentials. Schools must:
- Keep all network equipment in a secure location
- Not share login credentials with unauthorised individuals
- Report any suspected security breach to Broadband4 immediately
- Ensure end-user devices have up-to-date antivirus and security patches
7. Breach of This Policy
Broadband4 reserves the right to suspend or restrict service immediately if we reasonably believe a breach of this policy has occurred. We will notify the school's designated contact and work with them to resolve the issue. Serious or repeated breaches may result in service termination in accordance with the service agreement.
8. Reporting
If you become aware of any misuse of Broadband4 services, please report it immediately to info@broadband4.co.uk.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Schools will be notified of material changes. Continued use of the service following notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
